2141 MAINTENANCE

Steam Locomotive 2141 Maintenance

Our dedicated team of volunteers are continuously working to maintain the

 steam locomotive

As you can well imagine, parts, service and general maintenance on this 110 year old locomotive are incredibly costly.

Help us to keep history alive.

We are looking for support in order to ensure this locomotive engine remains ready should we get the opportunity to return to the rails.

Your donation will go towards the lengthy and never ending list that allows the 2141 to be function including:

  • Firebox maintenance

  • Boiler maintenance and repair

  • Valve maintenance

  • Brake repairs

  • Generator repairs

  • A massive amount of smaller jobs that keep the 2141 functional.

As a non-profit we are always grateful for the generous support we receive. Any money received will go directly to this project and not be used in our general operations account.

EDUCATION & VISITOR EXPERIENCE

Education Program

Kamloops Heritage Railway Society's objective is to educate, entertain and enrich.  We are currently developing a number of programs to ensure we meet that objective.

Our Education Program will be primarily geared towards grades 2-7 but will have a flexible curriculum that can be adapted to any education level right through to university.  We aim to develop the highest level of experiential learning for the youth of Kamloops and beyond.

We have converting a decommissioned passenger car into an historic railcar schoolroom. This car will be a static space used to deliver our education program and double as an amazing display for all visitors to our historic park.

FUNDING ANNOUNCEMENT

We were one of the recipients of the Unique Heritage Infrastructure stream of the CERI grant, issued by Heritage BC and the Province of British Columbia.

We gratefully acknowledge the financial support of the Province of British Columbia through the Ministry of Forests, Lands, Natural Resource Operations and Rural Development.

This funding was for two projects in our heritage park:

1) Repurposing the decommissioned coach into a historic railcar classroom

2) Building a kiosk to welcome visitors into our historic park.

Although we received a grant for this project, that grant will not cover all the aspects of this project that are in development. If you would like to donate to the Education Program, click below:

As a non-profit we are always grateful for the generous support we receive. Any money donated will go directly to the creation and implementation of these programs.

ARCHIVE EXPANSION

Archive Expansion

At The Kamloops Heritage Railway we take our obligation as a steward of history and its artifacts very seriously. We are currently looking to expand our archive space to ensure we are able to preserve an immense amount of history and to be able to make that history available to  generations to come.

This project involves expanding on our existing space, buying or building shelves, updating software, and acquiring adequate storage containers to ensure all documents and artifacts remain intact.

If you would like to donate to the archive expansion project, click below:

As a non-profit we are always grateful for the generous support we receive. Any money donated will go directly to the creation and implementation of these programs.

SPEEDER RESTORATION

SPEERER RESTORATION

The Prince George Railway and Forestry Museum generously donated this railway speeder to KHR!

Our goal is to restore this speeder and the gang speeder that we received from the Harte family.

KHR hopes to eventually provide speeder rides to all of our visitors. Two former speeder work carts have been modified to seat passengers and will be towed by the speeders.

Almost all of it components need to be replaced or refurbished. Including replacing its old worn out two stroke engine with a modern, quite, environmentally friendly one. Our goal is to have this speeder operational by this fall

If you would like to donate to the speeder restoration project, click below:

As a non-profit we are always grateful for the generous support we receive. Any money donated will go directly to the creation and implementation of the speeder restoration. KHR will be placing a donation plaque on the rear wall of the speeders as a record of your generosity.
